AUSTIN -- At least three Occupy Austin members were arrested Saturday evening while trying to reorganize a new occupation in North Austin.
About 50 protesters were gathering around 5 p.m. near Highland Park Mall, when they were met by a dozen Austin police officers.
Authorities arrested two people after telling the group that they were on private property and needed to move to the sidewalk.
The rest of the members then marched Northeast to St. Johns Avenue and Interstate 35 near the abandoned Home Depot, where they planned to pitch a tent city.
But after arriving, police arrested a third person and tore down two tents that had been setup.
The event was in honor of the one year anniversary of the Occupy movement in Austin.
