AUSTIN – Austin police released the names of two teenagers Tuesday who died in a stolen truck which hit a tree last week.

Investigators said Rodney Penson, 17, was behind the wheel of the truck. He died shortly after the crash.

Lori West, mother of Allyiah Asher, said her 16-year-old daughter who was a Crockett High School freshman died last Thursday.

“She felt like nobody really loved and cared for her. She was very protective of me,” West said.

West said her daughter Allyiah had a troubled childhood and sought out the attention of gangs for acceptance and love.

On October 2nd, Austin Police said Asher was one of five teenagers in a stolen truck which crashed at 2211 Garden Street in East Austin.

“It's overwhelming for me because I know physically I can't have her here. I'm having a hard time with her body not being here. I know spiritually she's up there, she's okay,” West said.
