AUSTIN -- May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and some riders are taking their message of "share the road" to the streets.
TxDOT, APD and Austin Patriot Guard riders held a ride through downtown Austin. The riders traded in their traditional American flags for ones that read "look twice."
According to TxDOT, in 2012, 460 Texas motorcyclists were killed in accidents. That's down six percent from 2011 when 488 riders were killed.
"Even one death is one death too many, but seeing a decrease after a number of years of seeing increases is very good news from a motorcyclist standpoint," one motorcyclist said.
Still in 2012, 89 percent of accidents involving a motorcycle resulted in injury or death of the rider. And there have already been six deadly motorcycle accidents in Austin this year.
