GEORGETOWN -- A man is in the Williamson County Jail Sunday after allegedly pointing a gun at a Georgetown police officer.
Police tell KVUE they received reports around 11 Saturday night that 38-year-old Howard Kirk was on his way to his ex-wife's house with a knife and a gun.
A police officer tried to pull him over before he got there, but Kirk ran. Police say when he did stop, he got out of his car and pointed a gun at officers.
Sergeant Philip Sanford fired, missing Kirk. He dropped his weapon, but officers had to use a stun gun to take him into custody.
Sergeant Sanford has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation. He has been a member of the department since November of 2006 and has been a sergeant since December 2012.
