A man who crashed into a Cedar Park family, causing a woman’s hand to be severed, was sentenced to 75 years in prison for aggravated assault, Williamson County prosecutors said.

James Allen Harris, 32, was taking muscle relaxers and Valium when he crossed into oncoming traffic on Highway 183 in Leander in February 2008.

Ernestina Segovia’s hand was severed and later re-attached.  Her father Jose Segovia had a broken leg and hip.

Prosecutors say there was no evidence that Harris had a prescription for the medications in his system.

Harris had already been convicted of six felonies, including robbery and drug possession.

Harris was sentenced to 75 years in prison for each of the two aggravated assault charges.  He will serve the time concurrently.

Prosecutors say he will not be eligible for parole for 30 years.
