AUSTIN -- A worker was injured at the Waller Creek Tunnel project at 12th Street and Red River.
It happened around 2:15 p.m. Thursday when a five-man crew was working on the tunnel project.
According to a spokesperson for the City of Austin Public Works Department, the crew was installing steel beams when one of the beams fell. Four of the workers avoided the beam, but one was hit.
The workers called for help from a mine phone and then transported the injured worker up to the surface where EMS transported him to University Medical Center Brackenridge.
The injured worker was conscious and alert. His name and condition have not been released.
