BASTROP COUNTY, Texas -- Bastrop County Sheriff's deputies are looking for a man in Del Valle facing charges of animal abuse.
Mariano Resendiz Villafuerta, 43, is charged with the felony of cruelty to livestock animals by the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office.
According to an affidavit, authorities were sent to a home in the 300 block of Mesa Drive in Del Valle for an animal abuse report on Nov. 11.
A witness told officials he saw a loose horse on the roadway before a man, identified as Villafuerta, drove up in a pickup truck. The witness saw Villafuerta tie the horse to the back of his truck and drive down the street with the horse attached. The horse appeared to have a difficult time keeping up, and its legs began to bow out.
The horse then fell and was dragged for about 100 yards.
The witness said Villafuerta then got out of the truck and began kicking the horse in its neck until it finally stood up. He then dragged the horse by its rope to a home on Mesa Drive.
The horse suffered injuries to its eyes, and its skin and hair was scraped off the left side of its body. It also suffered injuries to its left leg.
