LEANDER, Texas -- More than a year and a half after a young girl was critically injured, a pedestrian crossing is now up and running on a busy Leander street.
Crews unveiled a new traffic light on Bagdad Road near Leander High School. Students can push a button to cross safely.
Today 13-year-old Naarah McKinney crossed the street for the first time since her accident. She says she is grateful for all the work that went into building it.
"Now that this is here, if kids decide that they don't use it, it's on their own term. It's just so special that I think they should use it," McKinney said.
The city and Leander ISD split the cost of the $88,000 project.
