A Leander man finds a unique way to vent his frustration about the Capital Metro rail delay.
For almost two years Mike Kaply has walked around with a chip on his shoulder regarding the empty Leander rail station. Now he will soon proudly display it on his shirt.
While joking around with friends over the weekend, Kaply said instead of MetroRail it should be called Metro "fail." He knew he was onto something and went to work right away. He bought the Capital Metro font, had a friend design a logo, and now even your baby can spread the word.
“There's T-shirts, bumper stickers, trucker hats. We even did water bottles if you want to carry Metrofail with you when you run,” Kaply said.
We showed the product to several Central Texans. They appreciated Kaply's humor.
"I'm amused by it. I especially like the bib,” Ayub Shafi said.
"I agree with it. I think it's very true,” Neal Slack said.
Kaply hopes to use the funny logo to get a serious message across to the powers that be.
"We live in Leander and one of the reasons we moved this far north and also we went to one car is because two years ago we had expectations that there would be the commuter rail available and we could use it to work,” he said.
The new start date is scheduled for the first quarter of next year. While he waits, Kaply finds griping therapeutic.
"I just wanted some way to let people know how frustrated I was and hopefully people will be able to show their frustration too, he said.
We found at least two takers.
"It's just like freedom of speech and it ain't going so well for them. I really want it to work,” Shafi said.
"I think I'd go for the T-shirt actually -- $28 isn't a bad price actually. It might be a few years that I get use out of it,” Stephen Nold said.
