The KVUE Defenders extend their reach by adding another award winning journalist to an award winning team.

Austin, TX – KVUE’s long-standing and award winning investigative unit, The Defenders, grows even stronger by adding Austin American-Statesman investigative journalist Tony Plohetski to the team.  The veteran reporter will provide special assignments alongside Andy Pierrotti to air on KVUE News and in the Austin American-Statesman.  This joint partnership between Austin’s news leaders brings viewers more of the investigative journalism that they have asked for and reinforces KVUE’s commitment to delivering local reporting that impacts our viewers' lives.

“It makes sense that the two leading news organizations in Austin join together in this unique partnership for the benefit of our viewers and readers. Investigative journalism is at the core of both our newsrooms. By joining forces with the Austin American-Statesman and veteran reporter Tony Plohetski, the award winning KVUE's Defenders Unit will be able to bring more investigative journalism to the people we serve, our viewers and readers who trust in us that we will report responsible, ethical and accurate news and information,” says KVUE’s News Director, Frank Volpicella.

Investigations produced by the KVUE Defenders have received awards from The Texas Associated Press Broadcasters, Emmys from The Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and prestigious Edward R. Murrow awards.
