Labor Day is traditionally considered the end of summer. Monday thousands of people brought the season to an end on area lakes.
Families grilled up a storm and filled up every picnic table in Mansfield Dam Park. And the boat ramps were very busy with those wanting to hit the lake and say so long to the summer. Some drove in from as far as Louisiana to enjoy the last days of summer.
“We’re gonna do a little boating and then after that we’re gonna hang out at the local restaurants and hang out with the local people and enjoy ourselves a nice fresh beverage,” said Victor Sanchez. “This is really the last big hit of the summer, so you want to go out with a bang and make some memories happen.”
Lake Patrols were out in full force wrote hundreds of tickets this holiday weekend, for all kinds of safety violations.
Law enforcement was also looking for those who are boating while intoxicated. They said they didn't want to ruin anyone's good time this holiday weekend -- they just wanted to make sure everyone stays safe.
