AUSTIN -- The film officially kicking off SXSW premiered Friday night at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Austin.
“The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” features some Hollywood heavyweights, including Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi, James Gandolfini and Olivia Wilde.
“When you put together Steve Carell and Jim Carrey in a movie about Vegas magicians, it's hard to go too far from funny,” said screenwriter John Goldstein.
“I thought it was really funny, that's exactly it. It's untapped. It's a world I'd never seen before," Steve Carell told KVUE.
KVUE asked Carell if there was any pressure kicking off an entire festival.
“No, no pressure, it’s really an honor. It's cool and I can't wait to see it with a big crowd like this,” said Carell.
Actress Olivia Wilde plays a magician’s assistant in the film.
“I loved seeing Steve in his velvet, with his waxed tan chest and his lion hair,” she said.
Wilde is also an Austin regular, attending music festivals like ACL.
“I'm so proud to have Burt Wonderstone open the festival, it's really an honor,” said Wilde.
Castmate and competing magician Jim Carrey said Austin is home to some serious talent.
“Gosh, there's been a wave of insanely talented people coming from here the last 20 years, it's been unbelievable," Carrey said.
“The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” hits theaters March 15th.
