AUSTIN--A special photography exhibit in Austin raises awareness about the need for adoptive families in Texas. The Heart Gallery is on display at the Austin Children's Museum in downtown Austin.

There are 20 photographs on display at the museum that put a face to the number of children in the foster care system in Texas. On any given day, an average of 600 children are waiting for adoption.

The Adoption Coalition of Texas is a nonprofit collaborative partnership of child placing agencies that verify and approve foster and adoptive families. The group is responsible for The Heart Gallery of Central Texas.

A total of 150 children in foster care have been photographed for the exhibit in Central Texas. The photographs will be on display in public places and businesses for several months. The Adoption Coalition of Texas is also looking for additional places to feature The Heart Gallery.

The Adoption Coalition of Texas helps interested families navigate the state's foster care system. The group also educates the public on misconceptions that adopting a child is too expensive, when actually there is a minimal cost.
