AUSTIN -- Health officials are looking for a man they say came into contact with a rabid bat.
The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department says on July 25, a man in his 40s with "salt and pepper" hair and a medium build handled a decapitated bat. The incident happened on the hiking trail near the bat observation area on the south side of the Congress Avenue Bridge.
Health officials say they took the bat in for testing and presume it to be positive with rabies. Staff is looking for the man because he could potentially be exposed to the disease.
