AUSTIN -- A small group of protesters gathered outside the Federal Building Tuesday to discuss issues related to immigrant family detention in Texas.
They say they represent a coalition of more than 65 national, state and local immigrant, civil rights and faith organizations who want to end the practice of detaining immigrant families, including infants.
"There is no way to make a prison family friendly,' said Legal Director of the ACLU Lisa Graybill.
The protesters say Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a request for a proposal of 100 new beds in Texas to help house immigrant families. Protesters are asking for alternatives to the current system.
