AUSTIN -- Governor Rick Perry visited the Onion Creek neighborhood in Southeast Austin Sunday.
His unannounced visit came more than one week after floods damaged hundreds of homes in the area on October 31.
Austin mayor Lee Leffingwell declared a local state of disaster for the city November 4.
The mayor wrote a letter to Governor Perry that same day asking for additional state and federal support.
The governor sent out this tweet Sunday at 4:45 p.m.:
Pleasure meeting some of the residents in Onion Creek today. Proud of the volunteers who are helping clean up. pic.twitter.com/xsH4aWlqZm— Rick Perry (@GovernorPerry) November 11, 2013
