"For Once in My Life" made its world premiere Sunday to an enthusiastically receptive audience at the SXSW Film Festival.

The documentary chronicles the extraordinary efforts of the Spirit of Goodwill band from Miami, FL. Music director Javier Pena leads an unlikely group of rock and rollers who work in a Goodwill manufacturing plant -- each with some sort of disability.

Jim Bigham's soaring film mixes touching profiles of the band members and their families with high energy musical performances as they prepare for the concert of a lifetime.

Sunday's audience at the Austin Convention Center cheered the inspiring story that shatters perceptions about people with disabilities, explores what makes a family, and celebrates all forms of achievement.

"For Once in My Life" screens again March 18 at Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar.

Tuesday night it received the Audience Choice Award in the documentary category at the SXSW Film Awards.
