Georgetown Animal Shelter is offering free barn cats. Because some cats are not ideal as indoor pets, they are not as adoptable as others. However, farm or ranch owners may find the cats useful for rodent or pest control.
The animal shelter has created the free feral cat program to give feral cats an option to find a home. The shelter will spay and neuter the animals before adoption, as well as give them their rabies vaccination.
"These cats, through no fault of their own, have not been socialized, but they can be incredibly hard-working additions to area farms and ranches," said Jackie Carey, director of the Georgetown Animal Shelter.
