AUSTIN, TX -- Army Major Nidal Hasan will be back in a courtroom at Fort Hood Wednesday afternoon. Hasan will be arraigned on charges stemming from the shooting attack on post back in 2009.
This is Hasan's first court appearance since learning he could face the death penalty two weeks ago.
Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.
"This is the worst incident of soldier-on-soldier violence in recent history," said one reporter who sat in on Hasan's Article 32 hearing last October.
That is when the military determine Hasan would be charged and would go to trial.
Hasan is accused of walking into the Army Readiness Center and opening fire.
"I was hit four or five times, but I was in the hospital for three days before I realized," said one survivor.
Witnesses who testified in the Article 32 hearing say he only stopped firing when two civilian police officers fired back. One of bullets hit Hasan, paralyzing him from the chest down on his left side.
"At some point you did hear some gunshots and heavy breathing. The witness was describing how she was trying to get to her car and escape. It was really harrowing," said one person at the hearing.
At the arraignment, Fort Hood's Chief Circuit Judge will go over all of Hasan's rights and charges. Hasan may also enter his formal plea. The judge may further set a future trial date.
The arraignment is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. on post.
