SALADO, Texas -- A former Salado teacher has been arrested and charged with having an improper relationship with a student.
Former junior high and high school teacher Marcos Rene Garcia resigned on Feb. 13, after the parents of a 16-year-old female student accused Garcia of having an improper relationship with their daughter.
Salado ISD superintendent Dr. Michael Novotny says he notified the Salado Police Department, Child Protective Services and the State Board of Educator Certification after the accusations.
Garcia was arrested Wednesday and charged with having an improper relationship with a student.
In a letter to parents, Novotny wrote, "These allegations are of grave concern to us all. Texas laws, Board of Education policies and the Educator's Code of Ethics are all crystal clear on this matter. Yet, despite this clarity, individuals sometimes use extremely poor judgment in carrying out their responsibilities to students, families and the community."
