A former teacher at Elgin High School has been arrested on allegations of having an improper relationship with a student.
Adrian Montanez, 28, was arrested Friday and is in the Bastrop Jail under a $250,000 bond.
Elgin ISD issued a statement Friday afternoon and said, "We take the safety and well-being of our students seriously. We have a responsibility to protect the identity and privacy of our students and appreciate everyone’s patience in that regard."
Improper relationship between an educator and student is a second degree felony, punishable by a term of up to 20 years in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000.
