AUSTIN -- Traffic going in and out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will be heavy this March, thanks to several big events taking place in Austin.
The South By Southwest Festival, GRAND-AM of the Americas, UIL state basketball tournaments, Rodeo Austin and Spring Break will make the month a busy one for traveling.
ABIA officials say those flying out of Austin should arrive at least two hours early for their flight between March 6 and March 20. To ease traffic, a fourth security checkpoint will be open at the airport during peak travel times.
A new food trailer has been added to the airport's Cell Phone Lot, a free parking lot for those waiting to pick up arriving passengers.
ABIA officials have released a few tips to make your trip a smooth one:
- Allow time to get to the airport by considering traffic and weather
- Click here to check your flight's current status
- Call (512) 530-3300 for parking information or (512) 530-ABIA for airport information
- Pack smart
- Avoid wearing jewelry and accessories made of metal
