AUSTIN -- An Austin man is in jail after police say he burned his toddler for having a potty training accident.
Ira Kinchenon, 24, is charged with Injury to a Child, a First Degree Felony.
Police say he was at home watching his children when his 2-year-old used the bathroom on the floor.
According to his arrest warrant, Kincheon put her in the sink to "teach her a lesson -- and clean her." He told the child she wasn't supposed to potty on herself.
Julie Moody, a spokeswoman for Child Protective Services, says her agency deals with far too many people who lose their temper and injure their children over potty training.
"Parents have to keep in mind that it's not on their schedule it's up to the child, when they're ready for potty training. It's a developmental issue," said Moody.
CPS is investigating the case. The children were not taken into state custody, they remain with family members.
Julie Moody offers tips on how to potty train your child:
-Ease into it
-Start a routine
-Praise the child's sucess
-Be a good model
-Don't push it
