AUSTIN -- A man killed in an East Austin crash has been identified.

Ricky Monroe, 49, was killed and a woman was injured just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard at the intersection of E M Franklin Avenue, east of Airport Boulevard.

Police say a white Volvo truck was going west on MLK Boulevard when a white Dodge Avenger, driven by Monroe and going south on EM Franklin, crashed into the right side of the truck.

APD says Monroe was pronounced dead on the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt. His passenger, an African American female, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver in the Volvo truck was not injured.

MLK was shut down as police investigated the crash. This is Austin's 56th traffic fatality of the year.
