AUSTIN -- The family of Julie Ann Gonzalez has released a statement on the arrest of her estranged husband.
Police arrested George de la Cruz Friday after a Travis County Grand Jury indicted him for her murder.
Former State Senator Gonzalo Barrientos spoke at the Walgreen's parking lot in South Austin where police found her car after she disappeared in March of 2010.
He said the uncertainty of the last few years has been difficult and asked the media not contact Gonzalez’s relatives.
Family friend Jeff Mosley says Gonzalez was excited about several big changes in her life.
"My daughter started college with Julie and I saw her a couple of weeks before she disappeared. She was a young lady full of promise. She had her new job. She had become a pharmacy tech working at Walgreen's, was excited about buying her new car, and taking care of her daughter Layla," Mosley said.
De la Cruz is in the Travis county jail on a 500-thousand dollar bond,
Though Gonzalez' body has never been found -- prosecutors think they can still convict De la Cruz.
