AUSTIN -- Friends and family gathered Saturday night to say a prayer and remember 16-year-old Jorge Medina.

He was rushed to Dell Children's Hospital Thursday evening with life threatening injuries he sustained in a fight near Uphill Lane and Riverside just after 6 p.m.

He passed away early Friday morning from his injuries.

Dozens gathered for the candle light vigil, consoling one another and saying prayers.

Medina had 8 brothers and sisters and dozens of cousins, extended family members, and friends.  His family says the hardest part is having to explain to his nieces and nephews that he is gone.

"He was always happy. He was respectful and he was so loving and he had so many nieces and nephews, and we are all going to miss him very much," cousin Crystal Hastings said.

The family is still working out details for his funeral on Friday.

If you would like to donate to the family for funeral expenses, they are setting up a fund at Bank Of America.

Homicide detectives are investigating Medina's death.

They are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the homicide tip line at 512-477-3588 or crimestoppers at 512-472-tips.
