In this Eat, Drink, and Be Wary we found cock roaches, flies, and dangerous food. Those were just some of the problems at three Central Texas restaurants.
We began at the Morelia Mexican Grill at 9900 West Parmer Lane. It failed its November and December Austin Travis County Health inspections. On Nov. 21, Morelia Mexican Grill failed with a score of 53.
Weeks later, on Dec. 1, Morelia had another failing score of 65. Among the problems noted in the December inspection: flies in the kitchen and in the dining area, a cook was spotted handling an extremely soiled towel and then handling food, and shrimp that was in a prep cooler was being held at the wrong temperature. It was tossed out immediately.
On the required follow-up inspection on Dec. 15, Morelia Mexican Grill passed with a score of 93.
The next stop was in Northwest Austin at Casa Chapala on West Anderson Lane. It failed its Dec. 6 health inspection with a score of 56. Violations include cockroaches by the food prep sink, an employee washing dirty dishes then handling clean dishes without washing hands, and salsa and beef were held at the wrong temperature overnight.
On the required follow-up inspection on Dec. 19, Casa Chapala on Anderson Lane passed with a score of 81.
Finally, Sarovar Indian Cuisine at 8440 Burnet Road failed its Nov. 18 health inspection with a score of 65. Problems included no paper towels in the employee bathroom, a bean mixture was discovered rotting on top of the prep cooler, and many cooked, ready-to-eat foods in the cooler had no discard date on them.
On the required follow up inspection on Dec. 6, Sarovar Indian Cuisine passed with a score of 87.
