AUSTIN -- Many businesses have been gearing up for Formula 1 business and extra traffic downtown, but some are still wishing they could benefit from the crowds.
Downtown Burger is right across from the Convention Center on Trinity Street, and its owner is upset because a portable fence is preventing the people boarding the shuttles to the Circuit of the Americas from visiting his business.
He estimated a loss of about $6,000 each day over the three-day weekend.
"I know they're trying to protect the public from the buses, but the crawl speed that they're at, I don't think they're going to help that much," Steve McDermott said. "And these buses, they're sitting there for hours, not even half full, so I don't know why they need so many of them double stacked in the street."
The city said the fences are there for safety and that patrons can enter at the corners.
