AUSTIN -- While a Winter Weather Advisory is in place, Central Texas roads started to accumulate ice.

The National Weather Service reported Friday morning that ice was found on U.S. 290 west of Interstate 35, as well as Loop 360 south of RM 2222 in Austin.

Icy roads were also reported in Jerrell, Burnet and Fredericksburg. Numerous accidents have been reported in Fredericksburg, according to the National Weather Service.

Austin police had to close the upper deck of Interstate 35 Friday morning so TxDOT could spread sand. The first instance of ice began to fall on I-35 just after 5 a.m.

There was a crash on the interstate near Airport Boulevard earlier in the morning when two cars collided. Austin-Travis County EMS came to the scene but left soon after.

Officers put up flares and blocked the ramps on both sides of the bridge. A sand truck came in to help dry out the roads because they believe de-icer is to blame for the crash.

Crews have been pre-treating the road since Wednesday night.
