AUSTIN -- More often than not, Gateway Church in Northwest Austin was where you would find the Clopton family.
“They showed up here at 7:45 on Sunday mornings and start helping with our hospitality and served well into 9:45, and they did greeting and parking, all three of them did: James, Lynne and Brandi,” said Gateway Church employee Holly Hilderbrand.
But on Tuesday afternoon, the Clopton Family was ripped apart when 46-year-old Lynne Clopton and her husband, 49-year-old James Clopton were killed in an accident less than a mile from their home.
The couple leaves behind theri 21-year old daughter Chelsea Toner and their 16-year-old daughter, Brandi Clopton.
“Brandi was always right along with them, so it was really a family unit. Where you saw one of them, you saw three of them,” Hilderbrand told KVUE. “They had huge hearts and were smiling all the time. Life was not easy for them at times. They had their share of struggles like we all do, but for them they persevered, and people came alongside them and helped them and served them and loved them, but we were always the ones who got the blessing from them, because they loved us well, too.”
As the Gateway Church community continues to mourn the couple who was always seen together, Austin police continue to investigate what happened at the intersection of Balcones Woods and Research Boulevard Tuesday afternoon that left two people dead and 40-year-old Melissa Marshall in jail for driving while intoxicated.
