AUSTIN -- Austin City Council will consider renaming a police station in honor of fallen senior officer Jaime Padron.

If approved, Padron's name will go on this station on Lamplight Village near Parmer and Metric in North Austin.

Padron died in the line of duty in April 2012. He was shot by a suspected shoplifter at a Walmart store in North Austin. Brandon Daniel, 25, is charged with capital murder in the case. He's being held without bond in the Travis County Jail.

Padron served with the Austin Police Department for three years. He previously spent 14 years in the San Angelo Police Department, and was also a Marine Corps veteran.

Austin City Council will vote on Thursday.
