AUSTIN -- The Austin City Council has approved millions of dollars to buy new emergency vehicles.

Three separate items approved Thursday will pay for four new fire trucks, 13 ambulances, and 190 police vehicles. The additions will cost more than $11 million.

Council members also voted to end the pilot program allowing biking on some city trails 24 hours a day.

The City says the money to pay for police overtime to allow that program would be better spent somewhere else.
