NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- A Canyon High School student died Wednesday afternoon after being attacked at school by another classmate.
On Tuesday emergency crews found 15-year-old Logan Davidson unconscious and bleeding in the school hallway after another student punched him. He died Wednesday afternoon at a San Antonio hospital. Now students are trying to make sense of what happened.
It was a quiet and somber day at Canyon High School on Thursday.
"In several of our classes, our teachers just told us to reflect on what happened and reflect on our lives. Everyone was definitely affected by it," said sophomore Jamie Gomez.
Gomez had classes with Davidson.
"He was a good kid," she said. "I was shocked. I would have never imagined this to happen."
Police say the 15-year-old suspect waited outside of Davidson's classroom until the bell rang Tuesday morning.
"Literally when the child walked out of the classroom he was assaulted. As soon as he exited the classroom," said New Braunfels Police Captain John McDonald.
Two punches knocked the JV football player unconscious. Police say Davidson didn't have a chance to defend himself.
"It's not going to be considered a fight because there wasn't two people mutually agreeing to fight. This was an assault," McDonald explained.
Now police and this community want to know why.
"None of us really have heard exactly what happened. It's just so many rumors going around," Gomez said.
Right now the suspect is charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. Any enhanced charges will be at the discretion of the Comal County district attorney.
The school district is holding a candle light vigil for Davidson at 7 p.m. in the courtyard at Canyon High School. There will also be a moment of silence at Friday night's football game.
