AUSTIN -- Cyclists rode out the heat Saturday at the Circuit of the Americas first-ever bike racing event.
More than 800 riders kicked off the Tour of Austin weekend on Saturday.
"Bike handles great on [the track]," said Darrell Quinlivan. "You've got plenty of room to move around, so it's great. It's absolutely awesome."
Organizers say they want to make Circuit of the Americas a national cycling venue, but first, they invited the public to try out the course on Saturday morning.
"It's beautiful," said Donna Vernon. "You don't have to worry about potholes, no traffic, it's closed circuit, it's got the hills if you want them."
