AUSTIN -- Some of the state's best drivers and mechanics competed Sunday for top honors at the Texas State Roadeo.
The Roadeo competition showcases the skills of operators and mechanics while promoting safety and professionalism in transit operations, stated Capital Metro in a press release.
Winners have the opportunity to advance to the national and international competitions.
Reigning International Champion and McDonald Transit Bus Operator Arthur “Ace” Murillo had the top score at the state competition.
Murillo, along with Porfirio Rivera and vehicle maintenance team Jaime Ayala, John Proske and Gary Robledo, will compete at the International Bus Roadeo on May 5 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Murillo has won the International Roadeo four times.
McDonald Paratransit Operator Ted Ward, who took first place in the Paratransit Van competition at the State Roadeo, has advanced to the National Community Transit Roadeo on June 2 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Competitors representing Capital Metro racked up two first place and three second place trophies at the state event.
