AUSTIN -- Thousands of athletes gathered in Austin to bike, swim and run at Auditorium Shores.
The Capital of Texas Triathlon was held Monday morning. For the second time, para-triathletes participated as well.
"People tell me that 'you're an inspiration' and things like that," said legally blind para-triathlete Aaron Scheidies. "I never went out and started this sport triathlon or anything that I do to be an inspiration, but over time people tell you that you're an inspiration and you do have an impact on people's lives. It's just a great feeling to know that you've impacted someone."
The annual triathlon included a 1.5K swim in Lady Bird Lake, 40K bike ride through downtown Austin and a 5K run along Lady Bird Lake.
As far as security went, event organizers said there was no added security in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings.
