BURNET COUNTY, Texas -- A Burnet County man is charged with his grandfather's death.
Sunday Nov. 10 Burnet County sheriff's deputies responded to a home in the 2800 block of SH 29 West where they found the body of a male.
Family members concerned about the man had entered the home and discovered 85-year-old Farest Elmo Reed dead.
Reed had obvious trauma to his head area.
Investigators learned Reed's 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck was missing and sent a statewide alert for the vehicle.
The vehicle was spotted just after 7:45 p.m. Sunday near the scene of the crime. Officers tried to stop the driver, but he sped away westbound on SH 29 into Llano County. The truck crashed into a pasture at which point the driver, 23-year-old Matthew William Reed, was arrested.
Reed is the grandson of the victim. He was treated for minor injuries from the crash and released.
Reed told officers he shot his grandfather after an argument. He was booked into the Burnet County Jail to await arraignment on the charges of murder, evading arrest in a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
An autopsy on Farest Reed has been ordered.
