AUSTIN -- A crash in North Austin caused a power outage and closed two roads Friday morning.

Police blocked off Braker Lane in both directions and the northbound lanes of Metric Boulevard to give crews space to make repairs. Braker has since reopened.

The poles fell into the lanes around 8 a.m. Leslie Sopko with Austin Energy says an electrical boom truck, not one of their own, caught the lines as it drove through the area. The truck pulled down three poles.

More than 2,200 customers lost power. Austin Energy crews worked quickly to re-route service for most of those customers. All but 15 had power by 11 a.m. Sopko says the final 15 customers will see service restored once new poles are installed.

Until the new poles are up, drivers are urged to avoid the area because the lanes will remain closed.

Officials say the closed lanes will most likely not reopen until after evening rush hour traffic.
