Primary election night served as a homecoming of sorts for a former president and first lady.
The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum honored former president George W. Bush and wife Laura Bush by presenting them with its "History-Making Texans” award.
It's been 10 years since they lived in the Texas Governor's Mansion.
Both said it was great to be back in Austin, among their strongest friends and supporters.
“I am so grateful that you all have come tonight. I look around the room and see pals of mine that served in the governor's office and made the sacrifice to move to Washington DC to serve the country,” Bush said. “Thank you for all your years of friendship. A lot of my friends from the first grade are here and second grade and fourth grade and junior high.”
The former president helped dedicate the Texas State History Museum in April 2001.
