AUSTIN -- A bicyclist who was in critical condition after being hit by a car has died from his injuries.
Austin police say 28-year-old Cody Johnson was struck by a drunk driver Saturday around midnight near the intersection of Riverside and Yellow Jacket Lane in Southeast Austin.
Investigators say the driver, who was traveling east on Riverside, slammed into the back of Johnson's bicycle. He was thrown from his bike and rushed to University Medical Center Brackenridge. He died on Sunday.
The driver was arrested on DWI charges. Police say additional charges are pending.
Cycling group Queer Ride says it is planning a ride in Johnson's honor Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Long Center in South Austin.
