AUSTIN -- Two Bastrop fire survivors volunteered in the Onion Creek neighborhood on Sunday, helping out those who were affected by the Halloween floods in Central Texas.
Stacey Saddler and her husband lost their home in the 2011 Bastrop fires. She said that after it happened, a church group of around 50 people showed up to help them sift through the ashes. She called that help "invaluable," which is why they went to the flood sites on Sunday to help others.
"In comparison to other disasters that have happened in the area, they just have not had the turnout," Saddler said. "And now that we're out here, it's just shocking that this is going on while we're all living comfortably in our homes."
There are still weeks worth of work left, if not more, in Southeast Austin. Volunteers are desperately needed. Go here to find out how you can help.
