BASTROP COUNTY, Texas -- A Bastrop County commissioner has been arrested for driving while intoxicated.
According to his arrest affidavit, John Klaus the Precinct 3 commissioner, was arrested for DWI on Jan. 15 around 9:20 p.m. in Red Rock.
A Bastrop County Sheriff's deputy responded to the scene of a car accident that night, where a witness told the deputy he saw a vehicle drive through his fence and the driver attempt to leave the scene.
The deputy confronted Klaus who was standing near his vehicle, which the deputy saw two beer cans in.
Klaus told the deputy he'd had "one beer about 8 p.m."
Klaus reportedly had red, watery eyes, slurred speech, and had trouble walking steadily. He refused to take a field sobriety test.
Klaus was arrested for driving while intoxicated and has since bonded out of jail.
