An Austin teacher has been named one of the top teachers in the nation.
The National Council for Social Studies chose Sally Hunter, a teacher at Highland Park Elementary, as its Outstanding Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year.
Hunter will receive the award and a check for $2500 at the NCSS conference in November.
The award recognizes exceptional social studies teachers in three categories: grades K through 6th, 5th through 8th, and 7th through 12th.
