AUSTIN -- An Austin woman has been charged with the murder of her roommate.
It happened Friday Feb. 15 at 1127 Rutland in North Austin.
Police say it started as an argument between Tyesha Taylor and her roommate, 21-year-old Kennet Rachelle Haywood, around 1 p.m. at the Runnymede Apartments on Rutland Drive near Stonebridge Drive.
According to her police affidavit, Haywood used a folding pocket knife during the fight, injuring Taylor.
Taylor was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where she died from her injuries.
When police arrived on the scene, they found Haywood nearby and also transported her to Brackenridge for shortness of breath and a suspected pill overdose.
When interviewed by police, the suspect's mother, Sharon Haywood, told them Kennet had called her saying she'd "cut Ty," referring to the victim. Sharon says she spoke with Tyesha over the phone and says Tyesha told her that she was "hurt pretty bad" and needed help. When Sharon arrived at the apartment, she found Tyesha unresponsive and bleeding on a bed. She called 911.
The Travis County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Tyesha Taylor and reported she'd been stabbed in the face and neck. The doctor also noted that the extent of her neck injuries would've prevented her from talking and the injuries caused her death.
The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Kennet Haywood has been charged with murder, a first degree felony. Her bond has been set at $1,000,000. She is currently in custody in the Travis County Jail.
