Birthday wishes for Francis Adkins who turned 100 years old today.

The centurion celebrated the day with a big party and bridge tournament at her home in Heritage Gaines Ranch.

She grew up in the Dallas area, but is a 1931 graduate of UT.

So what's her secret to a long, healthy life?

"Whatever you do, do it because you like to do it. Not because someone expects you to. And find new things to like. That's good," she said.

When Adkins was born, there were only 46 states, Mark Twain was still alive, William Howard Taft was president and the first television set was still 19 years away.
