AUSTIN -- Police have announced that they will enforce a "No Refusal" initiative for Super Bowl Sunday.
APD says the DWI initiative aims to enforce Driving While Intoxicated laws and keep the public safe. Blood search warrants will be given to drunk driving suspects who refuse to take a breathalyzer test or give blood.
A new law passed last year will charge drivers who have a blood alcohol concentration of .15 or above with a Class A misdemeanor. They face a year of jail and a $4,000 fine.
Drunk driving is blamed for about 24 percent of Austin's fatal accidents last year.
The initiative this weekend will take place on Sunday from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday.
