Austin moves up U.S. Census Bureau list of large metro areas

AUSTIN -- Austin is moving up the list for the largest metropolitan areas in the country.

The U.S. Census Bureau now ranks Austin as the 33rd largest metro area in the country with 1.8 million residents.

Austin was 35th on the 2010 list, but has since overtaken Charlotte and Indianapolis.

According to the Census Bureau, the Austin area gained 150,000 residents over the past two years.
