There are strange circumstances surrounding the death of an Austin man. Police say his interest in explosives is what killed him, not a car accident as they first believed
At first, investigators believed 50-year-old Scott McKinney was a victim of a car accident. He was driving a minivan on Davis Road Sunday night, when the car veered into a ditch. He was rushed to UMC Brackenridge, and died early Monday morning.
Now APD says the injuries McKinney had, were the result of a homemade bomb he was holding as he drove. The device accidentally exploded, causing McKinney's fatal injuries.
Police believe McKinney intended to throw the homemade device into an area along the roadway.
