Austin man charged with threatening to blow up local hospital

AUSTIN -- An Austin man is accused of threatening to blow up a hospital.

Richard Reid, 50, is charged with making a terroristic threat.

According to his arrest affidavit, Reid was in the emergency room of the North Austin Medical Center on North MoPac Monday afternoon when he told a nurse that he was going to blow up the building.

Police and fire crews were called to the hospital as a precaution. No explosives were found. Reid was taken into custody.
