AUSTIN -- In a study conducted by The Daily Beast calculating the heaviest drinking cities in America, Austin made the top five.
According to the '25 Drunkest Cities of 2012,' Austin ranked at number five with adults consuming an average of 14.6 alcoholic drinks each month.
The list also based the rankings on the percentage of people classified as “heavy drinkers” and “binge drinkers.”
According to the study, 18 percent of the Austin population were classified "binge drinkers," while five percent were deemed "heavy drinkers."
Austin was the only Texas city to make the list.
Norfolk, Va., Milwaukee, Charleston S.C. finished the top five list with Boston ranking number one.
Austin increased in the annual rankings. Austin was ranked number seven in the same study by The Daily Beast in 2011.
